Prep

The prep year is the first year of school for your child. It is a full-time program and children attend each day from Monday to Friday during the normal school hours of 8.25 am to 2.35 pm. It is a non-compulsory program, however we expect your child to attend full time in order to get the most from their prep year.

To determine when you child can commence their preparatory year, use the prep ready reckoner calculator.

Prep enrolments for 2017

We offer a range of workshops, parent information sessions and pre-prep programs to support families' smooth transitions into Prep. Below is a list of programs we offer at Loganholme State School. If you have any queries, please contact the school or email our Deputy Principal.

Prep 2017 parent workshop

This workshop is designed to help parents prepare their child for prep in 2017 (TBA). We highlight real-life learning opportunities that focus on reading, writing and number that parents can do with their child to teach them the basic foundations before starting prep. It also highlights the expectations of skills and attributes children need to ensure their first year at school is a successful one.  Registration information will be made available closer to the date.

Prep 2017 interviews

Contact us to book an interview time.

Parents will be required to book a 30 minute interview with one of the leadership team to complete their child’s enrolment. During this interview, children will complete a simple screener and the school collects this valuable information to help us allocate the appropriate teachers to cater for the needs of each student. We will also gather any important information needed to ensure your child has a successful start at school. Each child enrolling in prep for 2017 must attend an interview prior to starting at Loganholme State School.

Prep parent information night

This information session is designed to help families get organised for prep in 2017 (Week 3 of Term 1).

We discuss the organisation and structure of prep, including:

  • uniforms
  • resources
  • behaviour management
  • introducing key staff
  • lunch boxes
  • where to go on the first day
  • homework, and
  • parent Q&A.

Prep transition program

The transition program is a successful program that allows pre-prep students the opportunity to attend a prep classroom this year so they get a first-hand experience of what 'big school' will look like. The transition program is offered to the three local day cares as well as parents within the community whose children do not attend day care. The program helps your child familiarise with the school grounds, meet some of our friendly staff and participate in some fun, hands-on learning experiences. More information will be provided to families closer to the date.
