Curriculum Warm-Ups

18/06/2015

As you walk around our beautiful school during the day, don’t be surprised to hear the chanting of children’s voices. Here at Loganholme we are using a technique of teaching that some of you may remember from when you were at school called “Warm ups”. You may hear a class chanting their times tables, spelling and grammar rules or letter and sounds. This is all part of E.D.I -Explicit Direct Instruction. This is to develop student’s automaticity of basics like English, grammar and vocabulary, tables and spelling back into every lesson, every day.

Warmups are designed to take place at the beginning of a lesson. For example during a Maths lesson the class may chant the formulas for perimeters of rectangles; or in the lower school the students may chant the properties of all the 2 dimensional shapes (squares, triangles, rectangles). We are doing this to ensure that children are gaining the ability to instantly recall the basic information that they need. So next time you are walking through the school, listen out for the sounds of our students chanting up a storm.
